“Comprehension is the active process of constructing meaning from text, and it involves accessing previous knowledge, understanding vocabulary and concepts, drawing inferences, and linking key” (Vaughn & Linan-Thompson, 2004, as cited in Van Keer & Vanderlinde, 2013, p. 54). A number of effective comprehension strategies and routines has shown to be effective in improving students’ comprehension of text (Duke & Pearson, 2002). In addition, these comprehension strategies can work on shared (small group), guided (whole class), and independent (individual) reading. Besides, the strategies are not limited to any age range. This website gives you information on a reciprocal teaching and six effective comprehension strategies known as predication, think-aloud, different text structure, visualising, summarising, and questioning.
