"Comprehension of text is the aim of reading" (Winch et al, 2010, p. 89). From the sociocultural theories' perspective, "it is important to consider to what extent meaning is influenced by the social and cultural context of the writer and the reader" (Winch et al ,2010, p. 89). Although students can use the four sources of information (semantic, grammatical, phonological-graphological, and visual) to decode the texts, students need to be taught and be able to use a range of comprehension strategies to enable them to become 'executive readers', and use texts for the social purposes they meet in their lives (Winch et al, 2010). Helping students to understand and adopt comprehension strategies effectively and successfully in their reading will lead students to be able to think critically and increase their interests and enjoyment in their reading.
